Grew up in Houston,Texas. Loved music and mathematics. Obtained BS and MS degrees from Prairie View A&M University. Earned PhD degree in 1974 from the University of Houston. Research area is the oscillation theory and qualitative theory of difference and differential equations. Has been a professor at Texas Southern University since 1981. Over thirty papers published in refereed journals. Supervised over twenty-five masters degree students. Received REU awards from NSF and created the L.L. Clarkson Mathematical research Experience at Texas Southern in 2009. Passionate about high school mathematics teacher preparation.
