Bio

Sloan Evans Despeaux is Professor of Mathematics at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She studies the history of mathematics in Britain, specifically the mathematics, mathematicians, and scientific journals in the eighteenth and nineteenth century. She is an associate member of the laboratoire Groupe dhistoire et de diffusion des sciences dOrsay/History and Diffusion of Sciences Group of Orsay (GHDSO), Universit Paris Sud. She organizes the biennial conference, SMURCHOM (Smoky Mountain Undergraduate Research Conference on the History of Mathematics), and she has recently published papers in Notes and Records of the Royal Society of London, Annals of Science, Historia Mathematica,and Revue dhistoire des mathmatiques.
