Bio

I am a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at the University of Rochester, with strong collaborations with several faculty in the Department of Environmental Medicine. My primary collaboration is with the Seychelles Child Development Study. The Seychelles study aims to understand the effect of prenatal mercury exposure from fish consumption on multiple childhood and adolescent neurodevelopmental outcomes. Other collaborations include studies of the effects of air pollution exposure during pregnancy on birthweight and premature births in Beijing, China, and the effects of phthalate exposure on male and female reproductive health. I currently teach two courses in Bayesian inference, and most of my research uses Bayesian methodology. I am also the principal investigator of an NIH T32 grant Training in Environmental Health Biostatistics" that supports several PhD students and a postdoctoral fellow.

I studied biology (especially forest science) before deciding to pursue a graduate degree in statistics. I enjoy learning about the science behind my collaborative work, and am thrilled when statistics allows us to see the big picture which cant be seen without statistics. Currently I mentor several PhD students in my department, and would be glad to mentor Alliance students as well.
