Bio

It is my philosophy that every person, whatever their stage of life, has the capacity to learn something, and that the role of the educator is to empower individuals to autonomously recognize their potential-their capacity for growth-and to facilitate their fulfillment of it. As a university professor, I have endeavored to acknowledge differences in learning styles among students by presenting content and concepts in a variety of modes. It is also important to relate new concepts to the prior knowledge and experiences of students through the use of relevant examples. Using these techniques to serve the diverse backgrounds of students, my goal has been to facilitate their access to the discipline of quantitative reasoning. Accessibility is important because quantitative reasoning is so pervasive and plays such a vital role in our society today. Effective teaching is also fostered by a boundless enthusiasm for learning; a passion which for me has never waned.

Robert received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1994.
