Bio
Herbert A. Medina received his B.S. (1985) in Mathematics-Computer Science from UCLA and his Ph.D. (1992) in Mathematics from U.C. Berkeley.
His research interests center in analysis, mostly on Hilbert space operators and wavelets; recently, he has done some work on polynomial approximations of classical functions. He also has worked on several projects aimed at increasing the representation of U.S. ethnic minorities in the mathematical sciences. Two projects on this front were the Summer Institute in Mathematics for Undergraduates (SIMU), an REU that ran at the University of Puerto Rico - Humacao from 1998 - 2002, and the current Mathematical Sciences Research Institute - Undergraduate Program (MSRI-UP) REU in Berkeley, CA.
