Bio

Emily Witt is an Associate Professor at the University of Kansas. She received her PhD at the University of Michigan in 2011. Prior to arriving at Kansas, Witt held postdoctoral positions at the University of Minnesota, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, and the University of Utah. Witt's research is in commutative algebra, an active field that has grown from the study of polynomial equations. That said, her work has relations with representation theory, algebraic geometry, and topology. Witt frequently gives research talks, including at international and national conferences. She also co-organizes conferences and special sessions, including the regional KUMUNU algebra conference. Recently, Witt co-directed an REU in number theory and cryptography serving students from underrepresented groups. She is also a faculty advisor for her institution's AWM Student Chapter and an AWM Mentor Network graduate student mentor. Moreover, Witt is an active developer for the computer algebra software Macaulay2.
