Bio
I am a professor of mathematics and former director of graduate studies in the math department at Oregon State University.
I work on inverse problems, particularly those arising in medical imaging. The medical imaging community which encompasses engineers, physicists, computer scientists and mathematicians as well as clinical and research physicians is constantly searching for better ways to understand what is happening in the body without having to open it up. Many techniques depend on measurements taken outside the body as the result of the interaction of the body with some radiation field: x-rays, light, or sound, for example. Our work is aimed at a mathematical understanding of these and related problems, with the hope that some of the results will advance medicine as well.
