Bio

Cesar Silva is the Hagey Family Professor of Mathematics at Williams College, where he has taught since 1984. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester under the supervision of Dorothy Maharam and was hired by Williams immediately afterwards. He has held visiting positions at a number of universities including Maryland, Toronto, and Paris Sud. His B.S. is from Pontifica Universidad Catolica in his native country of Peru. Silva is a co-founder of and regularly supervises undergraduate research in the SMALL Undergraduate Research Project at Williams, an REU site funded by the NSF. He is the author of "Invitation to Ergodic Theory," published by the American Mathematical Society in 2008.
