Bio

Xiaoping A. Shen received her MS degree in computational mathematics from Institute of Systems Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China, and Ph. D. in applied mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 1997. She was a post-doctoral fellow of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR), a Summer Faculty Research Fellow of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Dr. Shen is currently a professor of applied mathematics at the Ohio University, Athens, OH, USA. Her research interests are extended over areas of computational harmonic analysis (wavelets), approximation theory, and nonparametric statistics with applications in the area of signal/image processing, information theory and data processing. She specializes in mathematical/statistical modeling, algorithm development and data analysis. Dr. Shen is the author/coauthor of over 50 refereed publications, including four book chapters and five books. Her past and current researches are sponsored by NSF, Natural Science Foundation-China (NSFC), Australian Research Council (ARC), ONR, Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), and AFOSR. Professor Shen is a dedicated teacher and has wide-ranging teaching experiences. She is a recipient of three curriculum development grants for utilizing computers and software in a variety of courses, from calculus to wavelet analysis. Dr. Shen has trained numerous undergraduate students and been graduate advisor of numerous M.S. and Ph.D. students. Dr. Shen served as a chair/co-chair of organizing committees, a member of technique committees for several international conferences/workshops. She also served as a panelist of evaluation panels for several federal and state funding agencies, including NSF and Department of Defense (DoD). Currently, she serves as editor/associate editor for a number of international journals in the areas of applied mathematics, statistics, economics, and engineering. She is an accomplished industrial consultant and provided consultancy services for industries and institutions, including AFRL, Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., 3i Systems Corporation, REC Electronics Corporation, Electronic packaging Lab at the Arizona State University.
