Bio
I was born and raised in Bogot, Colombia, came to the U.S. to go to college, and never left. I completed my B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mathematics at MIT, the latter in algebraic topology under the direction of Mark Behrens.
After a postdoctoral position at the University of Chicago, I started in 2013 a tenure-track position at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. I enjoy the liberal arts setting, where I get to interact closely with undergraduates who are eager to learn. At Reed, I am a faculty mentor for STEMGeMs, a group that supports gender minorities in the STEM fields.
In terms of research, I work in the intersection of algebraic topology and category theory. In particular, I study how to construct topological spaces with certain desired properties from categories, with applications to stable and equivariant homotopy theory.
