Bio

Dr. Andrés R. Vindas Meléndez is a queer, chronically-ill, Costa Rican-American mathematician raised in Lynwood, South East Los Ángeles, California. Dr. Vindas Meléndez is a first-generation college graduate having earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics at UC Berkeley, with minors in Philosophy and Chicana/Latino Studies. He went on to pursue graduate degrees in mathematics at San Francisco State University (Master’s) and the University of Kentucky (Ph.D.). While at Kentucky, he also earned a graduate certificate in Latin American, Caribbean, & Latinx Studies. He is currently a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Lecturer at UC Berkeley. His research focuses on algebraic, enumerative, and geometric combinatorics.
