Bio
Alexandria Volkening (she/her/hers) is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering (by courtesy) at Purdue University. She received her PhD in Applied Mathematics at Brown University (2017) with Bjorn Sandstede and her BS in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (2011), where she was affiliated with the Meyerhoff program. Her research is in applied mathematics (for example, shes currently investigating election forecasting and how fish get their skin patterns). She is happy to talk to students about careers in applied math, help them find opportunities for funded research, listen to their goals, chat about how to find mentors and apply for positions, and talk about life in graduate school and research.
