About
The National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences is pleased to announce the Third Annual Iowa Mathematical Field of Dreams Conference, held this year in conjunction with the American Statistical Association StatFest conference.
These conferences introduce potential graduate students from groups which are underrepresented in the mathematical sciences to graduate programs in mathematics and statistics at Alliance schools as well as professional opportunities in these fields. Representatives of other quantitative fields such as engineering will be on hand to discuss opportunities in these areas.
Student participants will spend time with faculty mentors from the Alliance schools, get advice on graduate school applications, and attend seminars on graduate school preparation and expectations as well as career seminars. Participating faculty will enjoy an opportunity to network with colleagues from around the country and with representatives of national Mathematical Sciences Institutes.
How to Apply for both the Field of Dreams Conference and StatFest Conference
Students
Limited funds are available to support the travel and local expenses for students who are interested in doctoral studies in a quantitative science and will be eligible to enter a graduate program in one of these fields within the next two years; this includes recent graduates. Freshman and sophomores may apply and will be supported as funds allow.
In order to be considered for support, you must be nominated by your mentor. If you have an Alliance mentor and he/she has not nominated you, please discuss this with them. If you do not have an Alliance mentor, please send a note to mathalliance@uiowa.edu and we will arrange a mentor for you.
There is no deadline! We will begin reviewing nominations and making student selections on May 15th. Students will be notified within a few weeks of submitting their application.
Mentors
If you are currently an Alliance Mentor we will be contacting you in the near future to determine your interest in attending the conference.
